as posed in title, why doesn't the hand mortar have the ammunition tag? it has a reload property, but not the ammunition property? just noticed this when trying to make an explosives expert artificer, can't infuse the hand mortar with repeating shot because it doesn't have the ammunition property. i know this is critical role content but is this intentional?
The Gunslinger firearms have the "reload" property instead of the "ammunition" property because of how they work (they can fire a number of shots before they need to be reloaded, which is something that simply cannot work if they have the ammunition property).
The Critical Role stuff like the Gunslinger is essentially just well-regarded homebrew, so officially published stuff doesn't really acknowledge its existence. The reload property isn't official, so the artificer class has no way of acknowledging it.

Huh, i knew it was homebrew basically, but I honestly thought that the other fire arms defined by this content also had had the ammunition property, but they don’t, even though they bother to explain that property in the class. I guess i thought the hunting rifle (which does have the ammunition property) was also part of this content, which is i why i thought it didn’t make any sense that the others of that content didn’t also share that same property. But it’s actually not.

Basically, not having the ammunition property means you don't need 2 hands to load and fire it each attack.
