My character Phaestas is getting a +4 damage mod to his strength based attacks.
I have +3 for STR, so I don't see where I can am getting that extra +1. I am a Paladin with Defensive, so I don't see how I would be getting another +1 damage....any ideas, or is there some way to tell what is going into modifiers?
I am willing to wager that the Cinder homebrew item has an extra feature on it which is providing a +1 to hit and damage for all melee attacks, not just for its own attacks. Can't see what the issue is, but odds are if you un-attune to that (or remove it entirely), your other attacks will go down to +5 to hit/+3 damage as they should.
The correct entry to use for +X items is "Bonus - Magic". That applies +X to attack and damage rolls made with that weapon.
"Bonus - Melee Weapon Attacks" adds a bonus to all Melee Weapon Attacks with any weapon on your character (I think), not just the weapon's own attacks.

+1 magic weapon?
A link to the sheet would help, but in lieu of that, do you have any magic items? What are your other modifiers? What level/subclass are you?

Yes, I have a +1 magic item, but even my non-magic items show +4. The magic ones show +5.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
Agreeing with Chicken_Champ. Cinder* looks like it may not have been made cleanly.
Chicken, you are a champ! Thanks!
NOw, if someone can figure out how to get that +1 damage back on Cinder, without using the modifier that apparently works globally....
