Can you use the brand more than once during combat?
Example A: I Brand creature "A". It dies with brand applied. Do I need a short rest to recover use?
OR
Example B: I Brand creature "A". It dies with brand applied. Brand creature "B" and kill it, then brand "C" and so on until all creatures dead. Essentially "moving" the brand each time. If the brand can be moved, wouldn't RAW have mentioned it?
Is the short rest to recover the "one use" only for instances where the brand is dispelled or dismissed?
1 brand on 1 creature per 1 short rest. But the brand lasts indefinitely until dismissed or dispelled. Guess it would also end if the creature dies (it doesn't say that, but it definitely doesn't mean you get to move it, since it doesn't say that either).
Our blood hunter ran into an interesting situation last session. He put the brand of castigation on a vampire the party was fighting so he always knew where the vampire was even as it moved and eluded the party. The encounter ended with the vampire escaping and ultimately teleporting away.
So... is the brand still active? Does it ever expire? No matter how far away the vampire is? I suppose the vampire might realize it was on him and get it dispelled, but wow.
Your brand lasts until you dismiss it, or you apply a brand to another creature. Your brand counts as a spell for the purposes of dispel magic, and the spell level is equal to half of your blood hunter level (maximum of 9th level spell).
The brand can be dispelled based on RAW by Mathew Mercer. However, if it isn't dispelled it lasts until dismissed by the Blood hunter or another brand is applied to another creature, meaning this brand is indefinite (like stated - unless dispelled)

Yep. That is the conclusion everyone came to 6 months ago at least.
