If you award say, 300 XP to a level 1 character, do they start over to get to 900 XP or do they retain the 300 that they got?

Experience is cumulative, so if 1st level character earns 355,000xp, they immediately ascend to 20th level.

• 2-->3 [600xp]
• 3-->4 [1,800xp]
• 4-->5 [3800xp]
• etc...

It's not quite a smooth curve, but this is what the exp gain chart should look like:

They keep the 300. So they only need 600 more to get to level 3.
