So I'm making a halfling ranger, and I have a quick question about how small stature PCs use versatile finesse weapons. My halfling will need both hands to wield a rapier because he's a tiny person. My question is, will he still benefit from the finesse quality of the rapier? Or would he have to use his strength stat because its a two-handed weapon for him?
EDIT: Actually re-reading it, the rules only seem to mention small characters have difficulty with heavy weapons. I don't see anything about versatile weapons, maybe that was just my own wrongful assumption.
Rapiers are not versatile, so you get no benefit using it with two hands.
If a weapon states it is finesse you can always choose to use STR or DEX no matter what the situation is dictating.
Small characters are only deterred from using weapons with the heavy property because they apply disadvantage, but you can still sling a greatsword around like a madlad if you wanted.

IMHO, Earthdawn is still the best fantasy realm, Shadowrun is the best Sci-Fi realm, and Dark Sun is the best D&D realm.
