(Preface: This thread was made to get a answer to one specific question: if l have the improved pact weapon invocation, could l use the hexblades hex warrior ability to use charisma when using a pact heavy crossbow. Yes, l know eldritch blast is factually the same/better. l don't care about other things l could do.)
EDIT: whoops, turns out l missed something while reading! Thanks RoughCoronet0!
l was thinking about makeing a hexblade sniper (sorcerer/hexblade), but one thing l got stuck on is:
HEX WARIOR: The influence of your patron also allows you to mystically channel your will through a particular weapon. Whenever you finish a long rest, you can touch one weapon that you are proficient with and that lacks the two-handed property. When you attack with that weapon, you can use your Charisma modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack and damage rolls.
But all crossbows, except hand crossbows, have the 2 handed property.
However, The pact of the sword, improved pact weapon evocation says:
You can use any weapon you summon with your Pact of the Blade feature as a spellcasting focus for your warlock spells.
In addition, the weapon gains a +1 bonus to its attack and damage rolls, unless it is a magic weapon that already has a bonus to those rolls.
Finally, the weapon you conjure can be a shortbow, longbow, light crossbow, or heavy crossbow.
Now, l doubt the answer is yes, but does haveing PoS,IPW let you use your chrisma mod with said pact crossbow?
l ask because, even though it might be a stupid question, given it doesn't say you can, and that l likely already answered my own question, l want to confirm my suspicion.
Yes, you can use charisma for your Crossbow pact weapon if you are a Hexblade bladelock with the improved pact weapon invocation.
The Hexblade’s level one ability does say that you can imbue one weapon that lacks the two-handed weapon type in order to use charisma for attacks, but it then goes on the say that if you choose the Pact of the Blade, you can use the Hexblade’s feature with any weapon you can summon as a pact blade regardless of the weapon’s type. So since Improved Pact Weapon allows you to summon a Crossbow as a pact weapon, it is now eligible to gain the benefits of the Hexblade’s feature of using charaisma for weapon attacks and damage.
The restriction to only one-handed weapons is specifically for Non-bladelocks
