Ive just started playing with some friends, im playing a lvl 2 Tempest Cleric, and i was wondering if i was able to have more than 1 Thunderwave?
I should have 3 lvl 1 spell slots, and since u know Thunderwave and it dosnt use a spellslot, is it actually possible to have 4xThunderwave´s at lvl 2?
So first off, spell slots and spells prepared are not the same thing. If you have thunderwave prepared, you can cast it as many times as you want using your slots.
A spell slot is used only when casting a spell of that slots level or lower (which raises the spell to the slot's level).
As a tempest cleric, you always have thunderwave prepared as a domain spell, but it still requires a slot to cast.
You can prepare a number of spells equal to your cleric level + your wisdom modifier, your cleric level is 2 so if your wisdm modify is +3 you would be able to prepare 5 spells.
As a tempoest cleric you have fog cloud and thunderwave permanently prepared and they do not count towards your prepared spell total so (if your wisdom modifier is +3) you can prepare fog cloud, thunderwave and 5 other spells at the start of the day. This then gives you 7 different spells you are able to cast that day. You can prepare different spells each day based on what you are expecting to happen, if you are treking accross the desert you might prepart create and destroy water, if you are going to investigate a crypt with reports of undead you might prepare protection against evil and good.
You have 3 spell slots all at the first level, this means you can cast 3 spells until you can recover more. You can use these slots to cast any of the spells you have prepared, you can cast the same spell 3 times or 3 different spells.
The normal way to recover your spell slots is that you get them all back when you finish a long rest. There is an optional rule that allows you to recover one spell using your channel divinity check with your DM if they allow this.
Cantrips are a little different you know 3 cantrips and can cast them as often as you like (they don't use spell slots), however you can not change the cantrips available from one day to another (there is another optional rule that allows ytou to swap on out for another when you level up again ask your DM if they allow this).
When you reach cleric level 3 you will be able to prepard one more spell and you will be able to prepared 2nd level spells as well as 1st. You will have 4 1st level spell slots and 2 2nd level slots. You will only be able to cast second level spells with a second level slot, you can cast a 1st level spell with eithjer a 1st or 2nd level slot, many spells have an enhanced effect when you cast them at a higher level, for example cure wounds will provide more healing when cast with a 2nd level sloyt than when cast with a first level slot.

Thx for clearing it out
