Hey all. Friends and I are starting a "Treasure Planet" style campaign and we're starting at lvl 7. I've never made a Clockwork Sorcerer let alone an actual Sorcerer before, so I wanted some tips as to what spells to get, what meta magic I should obtain, and what Feats I should start with. Here are the stats
Name: Matthias B. Shaw
Protection Aasimar - Cloclwork Soul Sorcerer
Background: Astralnaut (homebrew)
Astralnaut: Skills- Acrobatics, Survival
Languages- Loxodon, Infernal
Gear- Grappling Hook, Astral compass, adventurer's kit, Set of traveler's clothes, Pouch containing 10gp
Zero G movement equal to movement speed
STR- 9
DEX- 14
CON- 16
INT- 12
WIS- 12
CHA-20
Does the stat spread look alright, or should I be swapping one or two of them?
Sorcerers are specialists at what they do, so the first question you need to answer is what type of play style do you want to try? (Blaster, buffer, de-buffer, healing/support, face, controller etc). From that all other questions can be answered. Stats look cool, what ASI's so far have you used to get these?
As a newbie Sorc who already has 20 CHA, Meta-Magic Adept will be a great lvl 4 Feat for you. Whilst the extra 2 sorc pts are handy having 4 meta-magic instead of two will be clutch for you, make you feel like you always have an ace up the sleeve.
To blast/debuff, top meta's would be Twin, Quicken, but now you can also add Empower, Distant Spell or Subtle spell.
Read Adurnis's post/guide re Clockwork Soul, although there's a few bits I disagree with there is a lot of good info there. Re the above meta choices:
Twin: Nuff said. Quicken: Almost essential for me. The power to action Dodge(tank)/Disengage/Dash and STILL cast any spell you want as a bonus action can be clutch. Not to mention as a blaster setting up you next higher level blast with Truestrike. Empower: When you really need high damage numbers, can't beat re-rolling those low rolls. Emp/Quicken Fireball or 3rd/4th lvl Cromo Orb (for single target) and then action Firebolt gives you a much better chance of removing a mob from the action economy, by yourself. Setup that Cromo Orb with Truestrike the prev round? Hello adv, come on that crit lol. Distant: As a de-buffer, if you are keeping Protection from Evil/Lesser res/Freedom from the Clockwork list these can now be 30ft instead of touch. Subtle: There are some tactical uses (avoid silence zones/detection/environmental issues/counterspell, surprise round fireball before initiative) but also because your party doesn't have an apparent Face and coupled with Enhance Ability: Charisma, makes you the god of charisma checks, with anyone, for an hour. If your DM is running Magical Guidance from Tasha's, hello!
Obviously you can't have all five till level 10 and subtle depends if you want to be a Face, but the above give you a lot of chances to be clutch and Sorcs are about saving your meta's for when you need to be clutch, not blasting through them every round with every mob (Unless you DM allows easy/regular long rests). Its also about combo's (Spell+meta) which is why deciding your play style is important.
Ie: Distant + Shocking Grasp (no AoO) then quicken Ray of Frost (-10ft movement) might let a low HP friend run away from melee, whilst also doing 4d8 dmg. Twin + Polymorph is an old Fav, but ask your party first and sometimes WAIT (Use it on low HP party members to keep them in the fight, not at the start). For a controller: Cast Mind Sliver then Quicken Hold Person, is popular.
Reaching my word limit, but as a newbie Sorc 4 meta's will let you play around to see what floats ya boat. Have fun!
Well, my first advice would probably be to replace on of the languages with common so that you don't have to use an interpretor for most of the game...
That said, the stats look suitable. I agree that meta magic adept is a good choice. For spells I'd make sure to switch out one to make sure you have Armor of Agathys which is really fantastic in combination with the clockwork barrier thingy. Oh, and make sure you also get counterspell. You can easily swap out Alarm and lesser restoration for those.

My group hates rolling for stats so we just have set numbers we input - 18 16 14 12 11 9
I'm usually good with rolling stats, but the others don't have the best rapport with the dice gods lmao.
I'm looking at part blaster and part de-buffer honestly.
We also have a Soul Knife Rogue, a Profane Soul Blood Hunter, and two Artificers (One Artillerist / One Armorer).
