If you cast sorcereous burst while under the effects of spirit shroud, do any 8's rolled on the d8's from the extra damage bump from spirit shroud allow you to roll extra damage dice for sorcerous burst?
Sorcerous burst says
"If you roll an 8 on a d8 for this spell, you can roll another d8, and add it to the damage."
Spirit Shroud Says
"Until the spell ends, any attack you make deals 1d8 extra damage when you hit a creature within 10 feet of you"
For - Burst is "an attack you make" so it "deals 1d8 extra damage". Since you can potentially multi-burst without shroud, it follows that the d8 you roll for shroud should also work.
Against - Burst says "...for this spell..." and shroud makes it fairly clear that the extra d8 is coming from shroud and not burst.
I would say it's the DM's call. I don't think the burst happens often enough for the extra d8 to tilt it into OP territory, so I might try it out just to see.
Spirit Shroud makes your attacks do 'extra damage', so I would rule that using Sorcerous Burst with Spirit Shroud would allow for the exploding 8's to trigger. I don't think this is unbalanced. The number of extra d8's is still limited by your spellcasting modifier, and using a cantrip with a 3rd level spell slot seems like a fair investment to gamble on a benefit like this.
Thanks. I think it works and is not crazy strong. There are only a few builds that could make that combo work anyways. Divine soul sorcerer would be the main one.
I'd allow it. I think it would be rare enough to not be unbalancing. I'd much prefer the spell if 1's exploded rather than 8s. 8's already feel good. 1's feel bad. making a 1 feel good is going to be more enjoyable than making an already good, even better.

I could definitely see that going either way:
