I just joined a new group and we are starting at level 3. I have played a sorlock before but it was a "limited/5 episode" campaign so we started at level 7 and ended at level 10. Id like to do 2/1 split but I'm not sure if its worth doing at this level. Also if I do a 2/1 split im not sure if I do 2 of sorcerer and 1 of warlock or visa versa. I will limit the warlock to 3 level and the rest sorcerer. or should I do 3 levels of sorcerer or 3 of warlock then switch? Im just not sure how to do things at this level, any advice?
edit: im planning on choosing shadow magic for my sorcery origin and GOO for the pact and eventually pact of the chain.
That's tough. I'd probably pick one and take three first and probably sorcerer because of con saves. If you do multiclass right away, consider going sorcerer 1 then warlock 2.
I did 2 of warlock and 1 of sorcerer. I relied on imagination and cantrips a lot but the build did well tonight. better than I thought it would. we leveled up so I picked level 3 of warlock to gain the extra spell level and pact boon there. after this I will run sorcerer up to level 5 then decide if I want to stay sorcerer or go warlock heavy.
Guess I didnt get here fast enough. I was going to say that the sorlock strategy of quickened agonizing blasts requires sorcerer 3 and warlock 2 to fully go online. So I was going to suggest starting sorc 3 and taking next 3 levels of warlock.
The build did pretty good, we did level up. The DM is allowing us to make changes to out characters before the second session if we want. so now at level 4 should I take a second of sorcerer, a 3rd of warlock or make the overall changes and go 3 sorcerer and 1 warlock?
Level two spells are pretty nice. I'd go sorc one first, then warlock three. That gives you a pact feature, agonizing blast Elritch invocation, and level two spells.
That being said, there are arguments to be made for 2/2 as well. I think sorc three lock 1 misses agonizing blast and is thus the weakest option.
The only offensive spells I'm taking are EB and Hex, everything else I'm taking are social/utility/buff/debuff/control. We have 3 frontlines, a barbarian, a fighter and a paladin so im gonna try and do a support oriented sorlock with EB for point damage. No matter when I take Warlock level 3 I'm gonna take pact of the chain. I still have almost a week to decide and get advice before I pick my next level.
I say Sorc 3/ lock 1. Quickened spell eldritch blast will average more damage than Agonizing blast, especially after setting up hex. Plus, you will have more spell slots to use over the day.
After that go to sorc 3/lock 3, and that is when you will need to decide how to split it from then on.
I went ahead and decided on 2/2. That way I have the punching power consistently with EB and AG. Tbis class combo comes online at level 5 with 3/2 so making the run to that is my point. after I have 3 Sorc ill alternate probably between Warlock and Sorcerer until I have 5 in Warlock then go full sorcerer past that. Thats my plan at least. The campaigns unfolding may change that.
