A friend of mine wanted to build a lightning-based sorcerer, so I thought of this combo. To me this multiclass seems pretty good as you get heavy armor and martial weapons, as well as healing spells, and most importantly, CD: Destructive Wrath. This allows you to maximize lightning damage instead of rolling, and since you can change your spells' damage type with the Transmuted Spell Metamagic, this allows you to maximize most damage spells. Wrath of the Storm and CD recharging on short rest are good bonuses as well.
The only downside I can see to this is that spell slot progression will be slowed down 2 levels, which is a lot.
Spell slotprogression doesn't change since they're both full casters. Spell selection is.
A Cleric 2/Sorc 8 has two 5th level spell slots, but can only prepare 1st level Cleric Spells and only knows up to 4th level Sorcerer spells. You can still use those 5th level spell slots for upcasting.
Being one spell tier behind isn't the worst, especially if you have spells that upcast well. If I had the choice I'd probably take 5 levels of Sorc first to get the power spike of 3rd level spells before taking any levels in Cleric.
Following your Sorcerer 5/Cleric 2 method. There would be no proficiency in shields, and no starting chain mail. It does make sense, but since the party only has 1 healer (a paladin), I wanted them to take Cleric first.

I meant spells known, thanks for the correction
