So with my current campaign, my group has to escort a powerful child across the lands to grow her power. They’re current en route to see the raven queen (living in a mountainside in my plot line) and I’m not sure where to send them next.
Something that forces them on a detour (bridge out, OP combatant, etc.) but magically leads them to an encounter that will unlock a new ability in her (and/or their) power.
What does the Raven Queen want? Does she know about the child? Does she want (or not want) the child to gain power? Or is she indifferent/unaware? Perhaps the RQ sends an emissary to guide them, or an enemy to obstruct them.
What do your players want in the campaign? Force a detour to something that they would enjoy, or let their PCs feel powerful.
Perhaps an opposing deity (or other power) to the RQ knows of the child, but doesn't want the RQ to have access to the chlid. Maybe they make a bargain or grant a boon to one or more of the PCs to stop her from attaining the goal.
You could just roll a random wilderness encounter based on the terrain they are passing through.
I could have some fun with that scenario. Traveling to see the raven queen who has some sort of temple in a mountainside?
Like Lord of the rings. They dug too deep. Duergar come into play. With enough force and an army behind they could capture the raven queen. It's within the limit of possibility. Yet fully possible in a home brew world.
In such a scenario the child they are escorting would be able to free her. But getting to her is the hard part. That's a story I don't have time to write atm.
Afterwards if they are successful. Maybe they find the raven queen drained of most life. Her powers used to flourish another group. Say giants and a flying citadel. Born from the powers of the raven queen. The giants have been secretly gaining in power to use the citadel to take over a city or land.
Stuff like that could push a plot further and deeper into things the players never expected.

I think you're going to need to give us some more details here! After this, literally anything could happen.

Have fun with it all though.
"Raven" is the key. Ravens are intelligent, curious and remember who helps and hurts them and their flock.
This to me is a childlike mindset, and the Raven motif maybe be the first note in this Chosen One's key of music, so to speak.
So, logically, I would ask, what animal best parallels the adolescent? That's your next theme.
