I want to homebrew a Neo Obyrith. A new generation Obyrith, created from the demon-infested body of a dying human child, which Pale Night transported into the Abyss, absorbed, combined with a part of herself and then birthed an entirely new generation of Obyrith.
This new Obyrith is an extremely powerful Demon Princess. One would rival the Demon Lords if she ever gets it into her head to do so. However, I have a question to which I cant seem to find the answer. Is it possible for Pale Night to birth a new Obyrith in the first place, or would anything she gave birth to, just be Tanar'ri?
So, per the lore, "Pale Night is claimed to be the mother of Graz'zt, Lupercio, and Vulcarik in chains, and perhaps the grandmother of Iuz, and possibly mother of Rhyali." So can she give birth to a Demon lord/princess? Certainly. Also, considering that we have Sibriex as a non-Lord Obyrith, it just seems to be a rare thing IMHO.
So in your case to determine if your new power is a Tanar'ri or an Obyrith? To me it would be based on three questions.
First: Who's the Father? If it is an Obyrith, then why not?
Second: Does she need a Father at all? If the answer is no, then it might be an option. Perhaps a difficult and rare one, which is why we don't have more Obyriths. Of course, she could use the services of a Sibriex, which are also Obyriths.
Third: Does it really matter? Its your story and go with it! That said, I say the Lore could support it, so have fun.
Great timing. I was just watching a deep dive on YouTube into the 600th layer of the Abyss with Baphomet and Pale Night. I would say that since she is not explicitly part of the 5e cosmology, there isn't any guidance on this. We know she has created tanar'ri long ago and we might assume she still can, although I have not found any specifics on how she created them in the first place and whether anyone else was involved in this process. Maybe it's good old parthenogenesis or maybe another oberyth was involved. We know that Pazuzu is also a oberyth who has manifested a physical aspect like Pale Night did. Since they are both oberyth, if oberyth reproduction is anything like it is for most other races, then it could be safe to assume the offspring might be another oberyth. Or maybe tanar'ri are oberyth as well, but just placed into a different category since they are another generation removed.
Since it's up to you, how would you answer your question?
I think any of the obyrith, would make wonderful fiend or even a great old one patron for a warlock. the sibriex in particular has aspects of the aberrations of the far realm to it.
This conversation got me talking with my friend Bill about the obyrith in general and Sibriex in particular. He thought the lore was pretty cool so he drew up his concept of one.
I think it could be a greath campaing idea. The reborn of the Obyrith domination over the demon kind and the world. But it could mean the end of the universe as they are the destroyer of the last world and come to this one with the help of the shard of Evil and the cupidity of Tarzidun. It would take a epic ritual to permit obyrith to reproduce again. As far as the story go they are not able to reproduce and are slowly dying.
Hopefully over the past two years the campaign that started this query came to an equally entertaining resolution.
But seriously, while Pale Night is cool and all, this is really old school lore. The byzantine origins of the Abyss, evil, etc. aren't really considered by 5e as presently rendered. I'm not in which edition Pale Night was last mentioned. Again, it's cool lore to hold onto, but it requires a lot of back storying at a table to get especially new players up to speed on it.
Although this is a very old thread, I would still like to thank the person for commenting on their ideas. Sadly, I made her too powerful, and by the time my players faced off against her, after teasing her for months, she resulted in a TPK, which ended the campaign. Fortunately, the players had enormous fun fighting her as they could unleash all their strongest attacks against her and come up with excellent cool ways of trying to win. So even though she ultimately killed the party, the players still enjoyed her.
Also, because she won the fight, she is still out there somewhere.
Who knows, she might make an appearance in the future.

A caffeinated nerd who has played TTRPGs or a number of years and is very much a fantasy adventure geek.
My campaign actually has a Judy/Jowdy/Joudy inspired partly by the entitiy of the same name from Twin Peaks and Pale Night. Part 8 of Twin Peaks the Return actually resonates with the evil planting in chaos lore and the ill tides that followed from there.
I just find it amusing and point out when campaign suggetions are made two years after the solicitation.
