Wasn't sure where to ask this, but Story & Lore seemed the most fitting place...
In the source book for Eberron, in the Khorvaire Gazetteer chapter, there's a listing of cities and sites for Droaam. One of these cities is the called the Venomous Demesne:
The Venomous Demesne This hidden city is ruled by families of tiefling warlocks who wield powerful magic and craft dark wonders. If you’re playing a tiefling or a warlock, you could have ties to the Venomous Demesne.
However, on the map in the book and the big foldout map, there is no such city...but there is a city called the Fallen Demesne. Are these one and the same? Has this ever been addressed by errata or any other official source?
An initial thought was not everything is on the map - which is of course, true, as the map is at the continent scale and it's not feasible to show EVERYTHING. However, every other site or city in Khorvaire* called by out the text is shown on the map, so it would be odd that this specific location (the Venomous Demesne) was not.
So are there two cities with the word Demesne in their name, or is this an error that just hasn't been reconciled? If so, which name is correct?
*Yes, a good portion of the Distant Lands described aren't mapped at all for obvious reasons.
The Venonemous Demesne and the Fallen Demesne are different location.
The Venomous Demesne is a thousand years old city magically hidden by powerful Warlock magic, and its location is secret, possibly on the western coast of Droaam or in the marshes south of Blackwater Lake. Some say it could be the reason it doesn't appear on maps, like the Changeling city of Lost.
The Fallen Demesne is the ruins of an old Phiarlan tower before the Mark of the Shadow even came to be, made by Aerenal elves magewrights. It's southern Droaam, considerably far from Blackwater Lake.
Thanks. I did some more reading, and it backs up what you say:
Venom Lords. A group of tieflings called the Venom Lords leads a community of warlocks, some of whom are also tieflings. Their domain, called the Venomous Demesne, is hidden away in the desolate marshes south of Blackwater Lake, shrouded by powerful magic. Warlord Bal Molesh is a strong ally of the Daughters, and some of his tiefling kin can be found in the service of Daask.
For whatever reason, I overlooked the use of the word hidden in both passages referencing the city. That would explain why it's not given a specific location on the map.
