While there is no 5e Dragonlance campaign setting book available now, Dragonlance is mentioned in a variety of books, like the Player's Handbook and Fizban's Treasury of Dragons. When the setting is mentioned though, it always appears like the last series of Dragonlance novels never happend and the world never became like it was in standard 3e campaign setting: Thakisis is still very much alive and Paladine is still in power. Did they retcon everything that happend after the War of the Lance or did they create an alternative timeline?

We’ll likely know for sure later this year when the Dragonlance adventure comes out, but currently the signs seem to point to a reboot of sorts, with Weis and Hickman’s new novel being sold under the new “Dragonlance Classics” label or something. So, to answer your question from the two options you presented, a little from column A, a little from column B.
