What mistakes turned into memorable happy accident or legendary stories?
I'll start.
This probably translates very poorly, but I'll try.
I was running a massive campaign involving a great war. The players were heavily involved and high up in rank. So I had to create lots of npcs like lords and generals etc for them to do politics and plan strategies with.
I had a whole lot of commanding officers on a name basis and a few details about them. I would improv the rest. They were sort of like semi-important NPCs but not crucial to the story. Mostly flavor and immersion.
A certain commander had already become familiar for the players but I couldn't remember his name.
So I sent s message to my players asking:
"En muista kuka se Farcliven komentaja olikaan?" (FIN)
(Translation: I can't remember who the Farclive Commander was?)
A weird mix of typos and autocorrect resulted in:
"En muista kuka se Farcliven cinnabder olifant"
And a Legend was born. From thereon the Commander of the City of Farclive would be forever known as Commander Cinnabder Olifant.
He became a real hero too. Heroically led his men to victory when a larger and stronger demon army laid siege to his city. Saved hundreds of thousands of civilians. What a legend that guy! 😄
