Hello folks. As a longtime D&D player I'm pretty into lore and details of the D&D worlds. With the newer MtG metaverse being merged in I find myself behind the ball on some of that content or even knowing where to go for the information besides reading a lot of books I'm not as interested in.
The Leonin race. Specifically, their language. I have heard that their vocal cords are square (vs triangle) and this allows them to roar as loud as they do. I had heard that also because of this physical feature those without a magical means of speaking the language really couldn't and it is one of a few languages in the game considered a racial language.
Does anyone know anything about this language or any source material on it?
Nothing in mtg says anything about it, but my guess is that is can be spoken by most people, though it would be harsh on their vocal cords and throat, and some nuance would be lost. All together though, I have no idea.
If someone can learn how to speak Draconic, Primordial, or Deep Speech, which are languages used by creatures that aren't even humanoids and in some cases used by creatures that don't even have throats or larynxes, they can learn the speech of a lion-person.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

Thank you for opening a can of aboleths in this forum. If you use telepathy to talk to a Leonin who only speaks the Leonin language, would it still be that same language? I mean, the Leonin's vocal cords are what allows them to speak the language, and telepathy has no connection to vocal cords at all. Would Leonin still sound like Leonin, or would it be nearly indiscernible?

For currently-unknown reasons, communicating telepathically causes everyone to sound like Tara Strong.
