Turns out it's a one time use item that enables the holder to conjure any familiar they envision, (a perfect gift for my Bard who has a history and back-story that includes Feline Folk). Bad News, I'm no longer holding it nor do I "have" this information. I gave the Egg to another player in the party to investigate and won't have access to The Egg or information regarding its properties until we're in proximity again. 😬
2nd, I feel like my previous post / thread was unintentionally mis-leading regarding our DM's intentions with the monetary system he's choosing to employ. On our night zero, he was able to employ some role-playing w/ a couple of us that suggested a GP, in the world he's creating, may have more in common w/ a real-world dollar than it does with precious metal. Last night (night #1), I was able to bribe an NPC w/ a bottle of wine that had a value of 10GP, which I expect is not dissimilar to the cost of a cheap bottle of wine IRL. After last night was done, during debrief and open discussion, we're fairly convinced that it's his effort to make item, property and wealth acquisition both challenging and simplistic all at the same time.
As one would expect, night #1 was full with the challenges of playing with the group hierarchy, role-playing back stories and histories, getting a sense of where we'll all fit and getting a sense of who and where we are.
All of us but two come with a shared history and back stories, the remaining two seem like a fantastic fit to the crew. Our DM has done a remarkable job and put more than a little work into recognizing and honouring our previous history. These characters are being pulled out of moth balls and dusted off from almost 10yrs. ago. Our DM's experience and his skill level is obvious and humbling. He's a life-long friend that's been bugging and patiently waiting to get our group specifically, into a campaign, for a long time.
Personally, I've always played a Chaotic Neutral Archer, typically a Ranger / Rogue, Wood Elf, or Elvish. I'm usually a charismatic charmer that likes to work the crowd, gather information and rain down arrows and hellfire when needed. Now, I'm a Bard and that's a whole new world. I feel like I can still comfortably work the archery angle as I build the character, just more "Jack of All Trades" than he will be a damage dealer. I'm intrigued by the opportunity to work the Charismatic Charmer that is my Bard.
Your thoughts are welcome!

1st, Indeed, the Egg is a Plot-Hook!
