Question for everyone in the know - When Asmodeus was designated as a God, his assigned portfolio was "Indulgence". While apt for a devil, that seems an odd choice for a being who was essentially the original Rules Lawyer in the lore.
To indulge is to overdo something to the point of it being damaging. This could absolutely apply to the OG Rules Lawyer perspective. Being so pedantic about structure, organization, tradition, etc., gets in the way of effectiveness. It doesn't have to be a match for gluttony.
Or he could have a gluttonous indulgence that's legal and allowed. Overly focusing on capturing as many souls as possible instead of going after quality and important ones. Ex. gaining sway over a Lord of Waterdeep vs fifty peasants. Which one would give Asmodeus more power and influence in the Realms? Perhaps he's more about quantity than quality?
With his original dragon aspect, he's constantly attempting to recover. From the perspective of any being not in the know, including the other devils, it would appear his greed knows no limits as he takes in far more souls than would seem warranted. I find it helpful to remember that chaos/lawful and good/evil scales are generally based on the very limited view of that from the goodly races on the prime material plane. Many beings labeled evil would see themselves as good from their own perspectives, but when doing good for your society hurts others, it becomes a little grey. Asmodeus is infinitely more than meets the eye, so his contradictions are more from a lack of understanding by the goodly races than any inconsistency.

Can anyone clarify why this was the case?
Thanks.
