As the title says couple days ago 27.7.2023 was our epic date to remember!
Most of our group members were playing for the first time ever and even the "experienced ones" had only couple short sessions under their belt over the past few years. Now we have finally formed a group of six players + me as DM and it would have never happened without some hard work to get things rolling! It did indeed take some time and sweat but finally we managed to name a date and we got our first campaign running.
I started the campaign "Dragon of Icespire Peak" with my group and our first sessions was pretty much a great success! 8 hours felt like blink and everyone felt like being sucked in after I did little encouraging to getting more into the character. And oh boy they did. Cheeky bard rolling persuasion check "1" and getting his groin punched by a kid, warlock trying to cheat in a game of dice by summoning for dark powers under the table and getting the whole table charred after critically failing etc. Many laughs, tension, excitement and close calls. Could not have wished for better first run!
It certainly takes a toll to prepare and memorise so many things as an DM, not to mention all the improvisation on the way. But I really did enjoy playing as an DM, even thou it felt a bit scary to think about it before we got into playing. I have been into the scene since Baldur's Gate so Im pretty familiar with the lore and many other things which of course help a lot. After couple of written campaigns I might feel like forging my own :)
Also all those awesome YouTube content creators really did help A LOT to get our campaign rolling, clarifying rules and much more. Awesome tips, tricks and ideas that I will be revisiting without a doubt. Special thanks to "WASD20" fella who really knows how to light that DnD spark into flames!
I have been into RPGs and miniatures over 25 years and it is funny to see how inspired this world can still make you after all that time. As an 35 old gamer I feel like child again. I think it tells more than enough how excited DnD made me. Can't wait for my latest order of minis to arrive and spice up our games even more!
Sorry for the WOT but wanted to share this with you guys and hopefully I managed to encourage some others as well to pursue experiences of an lifetime :) Eager to hear about how your career in DnD started and what pointers you might have to give!
