one of my playable characters is a priest in a cult and I've never really done anything like this before. all I have right now is what the cult is called and who they worship (and what they do ofc) but I don't know how to incorporate that in game imma be so fr other than the regular priestly things (like prayers and stuff)...help from the pros (or literally anyone because I'm stuck)
It depends on if you want to do a fantasy cult or a irl one. The most obvious aspects is what they do in their daily lives, what they believe in and why they are in the cult. With fantasy cults, they usually want to help some kind of horrifying being gain power for one reason or another, you could try flesh it out. If you want to do realistic cults, they are often centered around isolation, preventing people from owning anything & love bombing them so they become dependent on the cult.
So, lets cover what you mean by "a cult"; the above post covers the two main tropes associated with the term, but in point of fact the term can cover a lot. One common example is a "mystery cult"- basically an organization/faith that conceals its beliefs and practices from outsiders. This can play into the two given examples, but it can also be entirely benign- the Freemasons fit the general theme, having an organizational structure, ceremonies, etc. that they don't make public. Or really any new/removed from the mainstream belief system can be classified as a "cult".
You're talking about this like the role has been handed out to you rather than one you chose for yourself. If this is something your DM or someone else has come up with, best bet is to ask them for more details on the background.
wait now because these are good points. as for the handing out thing this was purely and idea I came up with when creating a new character for a campaign I'm working on. I have the details on the cult I just don't know how to incorporate in in his character other than the fact that he *is* a priest in said cult. cult lore:
Basically Forbidden Grace is a cult about love. They all worship this "angel" named Chamuel who kind of act like a cupid. hence why the church is called St. cupid's church. The character, (who I haven't named yet, so for now its just bloom) was born into the cult because his father is the said spokesperson of Chamuel, kind of like a vessel without taking over his body entirely. bloom grew up in the cult fully believing in it and in chamuel (even though chamuel isn't even real) and was announced as a priest by his father when he turned 30. he's been a priest for 2 year (he is 32). the cult isn't really hidden or private. they kind of act as a religion, they want to spread their cause, not hide it. but again my whole problem is just incorporating something like this into his character when I do play as him in this new campaign. I don't know how to really incorporate any of it. it was hard enough trying to make him from the bones out (species, class, ect) I'm just going through a creative block ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

I would make a cult that insists it is a religion and is very offended when people call it a cult.
"Why do they call us a cult just because we eat dwarven flesh????"
thats exactly how bloom is about his cult "why do they call us a cult when we sacrifice loved ones for our God :sigh"
