So I'm looking for thoughts, ideas from anyone that may wish to share about how you think & feel I could effectively play this character's race/class combo with relation to it's backstory / background.
Characteristics
Race: Owlin-Dhampire
Class: Warlock
Patron: Celestial
Pact Boon: Pact of the tome
Alignment: Neutral Good
Gender: Non-Binary
Size: Small
Height: 4'
Weight: 50lb.
Personality Traits
I had an encounter that I believe gives me a special affinity with a supernatural creature or event. I compulsively seek to collect trophies of my travels and victories.
Ideals
Obsession. I’ve lived this way for so long that I can’t imagine another way.
Bonds
A great evil dwells within me. I will fight against it and the world’s other evils for as long as I can.
Flaws
I need to find the best in everyone and everything, even when that means denying obvious malice.
Background: Investigator
Feature: Official Inquiry
You’re experienced at gaining access to people and places to get the information you need. Through a combination of fast-talking, determination, and official-looking documentation, you can gain access to a place or an individual related to a crime you’re investigating. Those who aren’t involved in your investigation avoid impeding you or pass along your requests. Additionally, local law enforcement has firm opinions about you, viewing you as either a nuisance or one of their own.
Backstory:
I was abducted & experimented on. The experimentation changed my body, making me reliant on others for vital fluids. Hearing my prayer, a majestic, beautiful, celestial being (Phoenix) appeared before me & offered to help & bestow a portion of it's divine powers, to help me in my search for a cure. With my newly acquired powers, I set out into the world in search of a cure. A short while after, I was contacted by a coven. These Hags bound me to a blood pact to follow orders and keep secrets. Afterward I was directed to meet with a group of Aarakocras, the meeting went less than well and suddenly the guard was upon me. I was wrongfully jailed for allegedly trespassing.
In the campaign world we are playing in, Warlocks are effectively looked down upon and forced to a life hidden and underground effectively. To survive, warlocks have to pretend to be other casting classes. I was thinking of pretending to be a devine soul sorcerer to help try to mask my healing abilities that are granted by my patron. As one of my invocation I chose Mask of Many Faces for obvious reasons. Despite the tragedy that has befallen my character, it is good natured and refrains from hurting others, rather wants to help those around it. Unfortunately with the curse it has, it must feed every now and then which it regrets doing and is trying to find a way to accomplish satisfying this hunger without needing to hurt others in the process.
I would love to read everyone's thoughts and opinions and thank you for your time and input in advance.
Sounds like you have set yourself up to play a conflicted character that will be hated, or at least disliked by all who know his true nature. Either the blood drinking or the Warlock pact would accomplish the same, but there is no harm in doubling down.
I'm not sure why you have both the "experimented on' and "deal with Hags" in the backstory. I'm guessing you only need one of the two for the Dhampir affliction. While i love the idea of a pact with hags, that doesn't seem to fit with the celestial pact that was made when a Phoenix took pity upon you. I would choose either the Phoenix or the Hags for your patron.
