Ok so a little context behind this world I am joining! SO this world takes place in a medieval high fantasy, high magic, where gods exist, magic exists, etc. etc. (Typical DND setting). However a zombie uprising is happening all over the world, which started out with zombies rising from their graves, now the world is being infected with this Zombie virus and that's all I know, right now I have not the slightest clue what my party is doing because I am joing mid campaign and don't know if we are trying to stop the infection OR simply survive and thrive in this hostile enviroment. Either way I wanted a plague doctor of sorts to be my character.
Ok so I need help, right now, I am trying to create a medical doctor individual who values science over religion and doesn't want the gods interfering with his ability to heal people because he wants to prove to everyone that doctors shouldn't rely on deities that has done absolutely nothing to aid other than send people to do it for them. However when the infection started he made all attempts to try and find a cure himself using medical knowledge of older doctors who have died due to the infection and tomes and books and scrolls he finds while on his travels.
My thoughts behind this character was gonna be warlock who made a deal to do these various tasks for this strange doctor who he thought was a doctor when he had met him but turned out to be this Vampiric Lich who needs help (possibly reaching Divine status) and in turn, will give the Cure to my character towards the end of the Campaign, with that thought, I was gonna go for this whole story arch of my character hiding his powers and his eldritch blast not wanting to use it since he can tell how devistating it is and scared him only to later have himself be revealed and possibly killed off OR if I continued with the character, he would go on to challenge the lich with the party realizing that it is a very bad idea for my character to just grant this Vampiric lich godhood as a means to obtain the Cure.
But last night, I talked with the DM some more on flushing out the Backstory behind him, and he is not real sure if I should do Warlock with how my character sounds, being this intellectual who wants to prove himself that he doesn't need the help of Gods to heal and fix people and only wants it done by himself so he can feel achieved at the fact that he has successfully done something not many if not anyone in this world has ever done before while also going insane and depressed with not finding the answer he seeks to this zombie infection that has this world gripped by the throat.
So I ask you all for help on deciding on which one, AND if I go Way of Mercy Monk, how could I impliment this idea into his story to where it still FEELS as exciting and as good as if he was a Warlock?
(P.S. I am having a meeting with the DM later today SO I will update you all AFTER speaking with him. But before I go, I would like some suggestions to bring to the table rather than sounding like a broken record.)
