I have the lore and history of Talos. And I’m creating a campaign that has a focus on him as the only God in the region. The people have generally sworn fealty to him and the players need to find a way to restore balance to the plane.
anyone have any fun ways to cause some chaos and blame it on Talos?
Well, he's the God of Storms primarily, so any sort of inclement weather you can throw in, from the extreme to the merely inconvenient, will obviously make his presence known. Maybe either randomize it or have the weather surge from "bad" to "natural disaster" during or after any key moments when the players cause significant hindrance to his followers or plans.
If you're not married to Talos as the only god so long as he's the most influential, including his subordinates in the Gods of Fury (Auril, Malar, Umberlee), possibly with lesser cults of their followers active in the area as either factions or rivals of the Talassan cult, could be another opportunity.
Talos was also treated as an aspect of Gruumsh in 4th Edition and is still sometimes portrayed as having a lot of Orc followers; perhaps Orcs are either prominent among the Talassans or are rivals of a predominantly human faction.
My brain immeditly saw this and had Vietnam War style flashbacks to my first time DM-ing. Long story short the player was playing a Cleric named Angus Talos and he one tapped the BBEG.
As far as having the god Talos as BBEG goes. Maybe you can throw Angus and his war-hammer in as some sort of high ranking subservient.
