In an age where the echoes of the gods' whispers still danced on the winds, a band of heroes, known as the Ambit of the Unexpected, a group of Forged, emerged from the hallowed halls of the Acatemy. Blessed by the divine, these valiant souls had been tempered through trials and tribulations, their spirits honed to a fine edge by the crucible of training, ascending to the revered third level, signifying . Yet, their moment of triumph was shadowed by a calamity most dire—a blue dragon, with malice in its heart and lightning in its breath, descended upon their celebration, its fury claiming the lives of many a comrade, while its minions, a formidable legion of kobolds, dragonborn, and lizardmen, laid chains upon others and seige to the town of Tullby Upon Blocks, so called because of the massive blue blocks upon which the town was built.
This dragon, a herald of doom, issued a dire ultimatum from the nearby town of Green Nest—surrender the Forged, or witness the annihilation of Tullby Upon Blocks. The heroes, undaunted by the shadow of despair, embarked on a quest to thwart this draconic threat. Their journey led them to the mists of a forsaken swamp, where fate intertwined their path with Wyrmwood, a scion of the ancient kobalus race. Her plea for aid—to reclaim her ancestral tower tree from the dragon's vile influence—kindled a fire in their hearts. Together, they forged an alliance, embarking on a guerrilla crusade through the forest's embrace, their resolve unyielding as they cleansed the land of the dragon's scourge.
Wyrmwood, with eyes that held the depth of centuries, spoke of a treachery most foul—a once-noble heart, her husband, ensnared by the dragon's vile influence, had turned their sacred tower into a bastion of darkness, a beacon of despair that cast its shadow over the land
The town of Greenest loomed on the horizon, its people ensnared by an enchantment most foul. The heroes delved into the sanctity of a dwarven temple, breaking the chains of enchantment with the might of their will, guided by the now freed clerics to the Womb of Explitica. There, amidst ancient ruins, they faced Explitica herself, liberating her thralls from her venomous grip.
Northward they pressed, to Tinspan, where the night air was thick with the revelry of a demonic fête. With cunning and valor, they wrested souls from the jaws of perdition, allying with the elven guardians of the land to unravel a conspiracy that threatened to shackle the Forged in chains of darkness. Their quest led them to infiltrate the lair of treachery, a noble's mansion, where they shattered the chains of captivity, rescuing their brethren and unmasking the true architect of their foes—a noble matriarch entwined with the dragon's will.
In a daring diversion from their epic quest, our heroes found themselves embroiled in a clandestine escapade. With stealth and guile, they infiltrated the abode of a councilwoman, guardian of two legendary Tullby bows, artifacts of immense power and legacy. Their mission bore fruit as they secured these relics, entrusting one to an elven bowyer of dubious repute, the very architect of their covert operation, who possessed the knowledge of the bow's hidden sanctum.
As the threads of fate unwound, a revelation emerged from the shadows of intrigue: the true adversary was not the lord's heir but his aunt, a noblewoman whose allegiances were entwined with the dragon army's dark designs. With determination steeling their resolve, our band of heroes traced the malevolent threads to the noble's stronghold, nestled in the heart of the realm. There, amidst the clash of steel and the roar of battle, they shattered the chains of captivity, liberating their Forged brethren from the mansion's grip. In the aftermath, they crossed paths with a young woman ensnared in the web of conspiracy, her plight a lever against her father, a councilman in Oran, coerced into betraying the city's gates to the dragon army through the mystical and perilous Dark Roads of the Fey, setting the stage for a confrontation that would echo through the ages.
Within the storied walls of Mithal, a city where ancient secrets slumber and the shadows of the past linger, our valiant heroes sought the wisdom and strength to face the looming storm. Under the tutelage of the city's forgotten masters, they honed their skills, their spirits forged anew in anticipation of the trials that lay ahead. It was amidst this crucible of preparation that a whisper of mystery called to them, leading their gaze upwards to the heavens.
There, defying the bonds of earth and sky, a marvel of ancient architecture revealed itself—a floating cloud castle, tethered to the zenith of one of the three colossal towers that pierced the heart of Mithal. These towers, relics of a bygone era crafted by the hands of giants, stood as silent sentinels over a city that had grown around their immensity, their purpose lost to time. With hearts alight with curiosity and the unquenchable thirst for adventure that had guided their journey thus far, our heroes ascended the ancient tower. Now, within the enigmatic embrace of the cloud castle, they tread carefully, each step unraveling the threads of a tale as old as the world itself, their path illuminated by the echoes of giants' footsteps and the whispers of the clouds.
Your biggest hurdle with this is usually just keeping players that long. Your best bet probably to keep this going for yourself would be when one campaign fizzles out, the party then becomes NPCs, freeze the world, and bring it back out as is for your next group. Then you can have your lore established and can bring characters back as cameos https://100001****/.
This is the journal of my players as we play through a wildly modified version of the Tyranny of Dragons campaign.
