I am not as knowledgeable as I should be on the holidays of Toril. Halloween is my big thing in real life, so Trolltide and Highharvestide are the only in-game holidays I ever really familiarized myself with. But now, with the real world winter holidays upon us, I wonder: are there other in-game equivalents to big real-world holidays? Specifically, is there a winter holiday that features similar traditions? Gift-giving, etc?
Page 15 in Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide tells you the holidays. Most holidays are different depending on location. Warmer climates may celebrate one way while colder climates celebrate them another. There are 6 total holidays on the Calendar of Harptos which is the calendar for Toril. You have 5 that happen yearly which are : Midwinter, Greengrass, Midsummer, Highharvestide, and The Feast of the Moon. Shieldmeet happens every 4 years (leap year) and acts more like a large job fair than a holiday. They mostly focus on the seasons, happening in the middle of a season, save Greengrass which happens at the beginning. Midwinter and Midsummer mark the middle of the season, and Highharvestide marks the beginning of the fall harvest. The Feast of the Moon is similar to Day of the Dead. You can make Midwinter like Christmas with gifts and the like in a town or city. Ultimately Wizards of the Coast wanted us to customize the game and setting to each of us. The whole point to the "Holidays" in Toril is to have the days match a normal calendar year here. Each Holiday acts as the 31st of a given month because each month consists of 3 10 day weeks. This gives the Toril 365 days a year. I hope this helped you.
