A king standing on a terrace overlooking a kingdom pulls A card from of a deck of many things (homebrew version) he looks at the card. “Ruin” with a picture of fallen sun, suddenly an orb of blinding light descends from the sky, some people run some people just watch, when the orb hits the ground Blinding light hits as everything turns white. When the king wakes up he looks around, nothing but ruins & fire for miles, his kingdom is gone. Only he who pulled the card was spared. 

That sounds like a ton of fun to play. He can’t even rebuild his old kingdom, it’s land won’t grow anything any more. He has to start over completely.
