While browsing the Faerûn wiki and looking at different deities, it mentions a portfolio. For instance, Sune's portfolio is love, beauty and passion. But her domains are life and light.
One way to think about it is that the Domains are the mechanical representations of the god's portfolio, which are the specific concepts and ideals that god embodies.
So a Cleric of Sune would likely be of the Light or Life Domain, but roleplay worship of Sune as a celebration of love and beauty.

Ah. In that case, portfolios are what a god represents and has power over, and domains are which cleric subclasses relate to that.
