I'm about to play in a game set in Baldur's Gate, and the DM's running the adventure are sticklers for the Canon with little leeway. In D&D Faerun lore, do thieves guilds, the Xanathar guild specifically, canonically have agents, safe-houses, and/or interests in other cities around the Sword Coast? I assume there may be, after all, if something is worth stealing, it should be stolen, and there may be very valuable opportunities outside Waterdeep too.
I would imagine, being a major crime syndicate, the Xanathar guild would have ties to other cities. Maybe a pirating/thieving organization?

They'd probably have contacts with slave traders all over the continent, too. And probably just spies and informants all over who maybe aren't members of the guild, but sell information to them on the regular.
Hello all!

Thanks.

most likely there are operatives outside water-deep and it would make sense that they are trying to expand their influence around the world
