Not a wizard, but a bard learned to speak with the dead to apologize to 15 orphans for whose squishy deaths he was mostly responsible. (He learned the spell and then learned that it wouldn't work on the orphan paste.)

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
I had a storm sorcerer and I only picked spells that were thunder, lightning, wind, or water related just to really get into the backstory. It can be fun theming your characters rather than optimizing your spell list.

has anyone learned wizard spells just for the purpose of character/backstory? for example, a wizard with a great illness knowing ray of sickness.
