I can't decide if my Bladesinger should be a Noble Knight or Soldier. I do like the idea of having a squire under my tutelage but can't think of two other retainers a high elf would need. On the other hand I don't feel like soldier is a title befitting someone of such high rank. What are all your thoughts?
Well a soldier could be an officer of higher rank but I agree that a knight is more fitting for a high elf of high birth.
As for what type of retainers, here are some options of the top of my head:
A second squire to help set up camp, take care of horses and equipment, etc (it wasn't uncommon in medieval times to have multiple squires to train)
A maid or man servant to prepare baths, help you wash, shave and clothe yourself, wash your clothes, prepare meals for you (maybe even a dedicated cook)
An advisor to help you grow into your role (if you are a younger elf, i.e. under ~200)
A majordomo to take care of daily business when you are on adventure
A trained entertainer or musician to alleviate your boredom while travelling
The first thing I would suggest is reading the 2nd ed write up on Bladesingers in the Complete book of Elves if you haven't already. They were one of my favorite classes to play in 2nd ed days and I always saw them as the Elvish versions of Paladins. You could do solider or noble or noble knight or talk to your DM about doing kinda of a version of either the City Watch or Knight of the Order from Sword Coast. With the Knights of the Order than you and your DM can come up with different groups of bladesingers and that just opens up a lot fun game play for your character and bringing in their back story into game.

I have been playing RPG's and especially D&D since 1st ed AD&D and D&D Basic. Since those early years I have played a good number of more popular games. I enjoy playing with groups and DM/GM groups that are from diverse backgrounds. I feel any and everyone brings something special and wonderful to a gaming table. I tend to play more magic users though with 5ed I do have ideas for classes I normally would play. My favorites in the past are Wizards/mage, Rangers and Druids.
