I have a player playing a character who is from the equivalent of Virginia and from a very country bumpkin town. What city in forgotten realms might work? They're also a human
That's not an easy one to define in FR. They were everywhere and not really anywhere. The towns' names would change as often as the ones in power changed, erasing the prior ruling person or family altogether.
Just pick an area you'd like and there will almost certainly be "bumpkin" towns of common or comical names in the region - some with more than one name as the inhabitants try to get used to the new leadership who's changed the name of the place for the nth time.
Even ones that gained fame could have a different name.
If you're looking for swampy areas, you're probably going to find a loose community of neighbors with no real township-like organization.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
TRIVIA on bumpkin towns: There are two (2) Oxford, Mississippi, USA. One, north central MS. Other, south west MS. Only one is incorporated (meaning an official city), but both existed unincorporated at the same time until the official Oxford in northern MS was officialized. (That's a word. I made it up. So, officialized is now a word.)
So, don't bother with trying to have an original name for the town.
EDIT: It might be funnier to have the same name as a larger, more-famous town in the region and claim to have dibs on the town name, insisting the larger, famous town change their name.

I don't know about forgotten realms but with Wildmount now being official you could use the small farming town of Alfield. Matt went out of his way to make almost everyone in that town sound as bumpkin as possible lol
