Hi all, I am trying to create a good backstory for my Half-Orc Wild Soul Barbarian
What I have thought of so far is that since I am "Half-Orc" I was set up and cast out of my tribe during a hunting mission due to me not being a pure Orc and nearly killed. After being on the verge of death wandering for quite some time and getting lost I collapse to wake up in some sort of house in a forest that I am not familiar with being awakened by an older middle-aged gnomish man who saved my life from there I lived with him for about 10 years oh and he is a Wild Sorcerer :) Which is how I came to know some wild magic thus being a Wild Soul Barbarian until there was no more that he was willing to teach me about and for me to know.
I don't really know where to go with this as I've never really made backstories before so what more should I add/change
As I understand it, the wild magic thing for sorcerers is innate. If you want to keep the gnome aspect of the story, perhaps he was drawn to save your character because he sensed a kindred creature with innate wild magic. Or you could have been on thin ice with the orcish tribe to begin with, and then the wild magic aspect just made you even more an outcast, an figure of great superstition. Just a few ideas.
I see a planes jumping traveller of the realms type of character. Maybe purposely being drawn into a different plane of existence by beings you have yet to understand. The jump/shift from realities warped you with chaotic energy that forever permeates your soul. You struggle to comprehend and long to return home. You dread losing yourself to the rage for fear of what might be released.
Maybe these beings arent as friendly as they make you believe.
That gnomes house wasn't a house, but a illusionary projection made to ease your mind in a space not made for mortals...I dont know. Magical orc barbarian is kind of throwing me off to be honest.
Maybe your meant to be a vessel for a god or the link between worlds. Kinda like a soul key.
I'm babbling. I need to go carb load and juice up on some electrolytes...
What you got is a good idea, great backstory material. I suggest that instead of the gnome "teaching" you wild magic, wild magic being the forces of chaos itself and is more inherit rather than learn, I could instead make it so that due to the gnome being a wild magic sorcerer, the chaotic and unpredictable nature of wild magic caused its erratic powers to connect with you. This most likely could be caused by an unnatural wild magic surge, or perhaps just prolonged exposure to wild magic, and thats how your character gets their magic powers.
Also, you should try to have a reason for adventuring since something or other has caused you to go out, form a party, complete quests, etc. Maybe your former orc tribe attacked your gnome's place and now your trying to make money in order to get them a new home, or maybe they killed them and the gnome before they died teleported you away. Or if you're looking for something more lighthearted, a wild magic surge from either of you destroyed your home and now the both of you are traveling. There are a tons of ways, but I suggest that you take a look at these if you want to use them or try and get and idea from them and incorporate it into your character.
I think you pretty much have everything you need from that backstory:
You "caught" the magic, like some virus or infection.
Wild Magic Sorcerers are all about causing unforeseen magical occurrences...your half-orc was a result of this.
Maybe the wild magic mingled with your orcish blood in a peculiar way...Wild Soul barbarians are about a sudden "release" of emotion as magic, and orcish blood always makes them passionate. It's a good combination.
An important aspect of your character is why your character is adventuring...are they trying understand this bizarre magic that is now brimming within them? Did something happen to the gnome, or their home?
But, this already sounds like a neat character.

Magical orc barbarian, hmmm?
Definitely a unique subclass.
