...that has a mostly rural and agrarian lifestyle. It's mostly a passerby town, thus it receives a lot of traffic from all sorts of folks occupying all sorts of occupations and races. This is why the residents of this town are more accepting of all types of people than other rural places.
This is my PC's background: she is a teenage tiefling living in this rural township. Remnants of the Blood War (or the restarting of the War) have entered parts of Toril, as she has heard of stories of bloodshed from nearby towns. Then the war's path crosses into this town all too suddenly. At some point, this PC's parents came into contact with a yugoloth (or knew one personally or professionally, this teenage PC isn't sure), such that when the village came under attack, the parents would be able to transport her somewhere far away (though the yugoloth did not say exactly where, or even if it would be in the same plane).
The spell would have worked as intended, sending her to another area within Toril, but for some interruption midway through that brought her to Barovia (she is a PC in the Curse of Strahd campaign). Thus, she finds herself in an unfamiliar world and must find her way back.
My question is: what is a good town she would have been born and raised in originally? I'm not limited to any part of the Forgotten Realms, so anywhere is great. But yeah, the PC, now in Barovia, is not used to having to think about her identity as a tiefling and how strange that is to most inhabitants of this world - which is ironic considering the magic / curse behind Barovia is that folks from other realms are sucked into and become trapped inside Barovia.
Thank you very much for reading and I'll be around to answer questions if you have them.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

One of the Dalelands might work. Maybe Shadowdale or Deepingdale.
Good luck 😊. Ravenloft is rough, but there’s plenty of Gothic horror and maybe the potential for romance for her (depending on your DM).
Thank you very much, Penelope!
Welcome 😊
I'd take a strong look at Daggerford. It's a small town, but on the road between Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate.
