Yes, I know. Spellcaster pact = Warlock. BUT, I have this thought about one of my players and creating a way for him to experience a Diety/God/Demigod that provides him with benefits should he (my wizard player) make a "deal" or "contract" for quicker access to spells.
For example, this diety would be able to provide him with the knowledge how to cast Thaumatergy without finding a scroll or being necessarily a class that can/can't cast the spell.
It gets a little vague on my details right now because it's just an idea. I really just want to tempt him with learning spells and then use it to create an interesting plot/storyline for his character.
Depends on the setting, but for Forgotten Realms, I would go with Mystra. She has her Chosen after all, and while that isn't the same as a warlock, but you could probably do something with that.

maybe, if your wizard had some way to speak to or see the deity. maybe special glasses and earrings?
