Lock Paleward grew up in small village by the sea. He is the son of a solder and an artist. His mother brought strict discipline. His father brought some creative chaos to the duo. His mother taught him the families boxing art and self discipline. His father taught him an artist's eye for detail and curiosity.
The mother worked for a local noble who was fond of her. The noble gave Lock a solid education in science and academics. It was during this period that Lock meet his childhood friend in Dax. Dax grew up as a student of the Ranger arts and would live as a merchant. Dax was the noble's son.
It was during a winter of Lock's 19 year and he was accompanying Dax on a tour of the region and were wintering in major city port. Dax as a noble's son was guarded by Lock. But nobody was guarding Lock. Lock was kidnapped by cultists while he was dinning with the rest of the servants during a party. The cultist needed to sacrifice Lock to lay a blood curse on his line to destabilize the region. Laughing Lock told them he wasn't anyone of import. Shrugging the cultist told him that bastard's blood was still work in killing the noble. They dragged him into a cavern with a large lake to prepare to sacrifice him to an aboleth for the curse. It was at this point were Dax caught up and killed the cultist guarding Lock. They made a run for it and return to polite society. They tried to go to the guard and were laughed at. They went the church. They almost were thrown into a psych ward
Returning home Lock tried to talk to Dax about what they saw but Dax was acting like that didn't happen. Lock decided that if no one would fight what ever was in the cavern he would. He started his journey in becoming a detective. And first on the to do list was figuring out that detail of being a bastard of the noble. But his mother's husband figured it out first and killed the noble and died of his wounds later. Grieving Lock's mother confessed a story of wine and passion. Being a year older than Dax, Lock could have become the next lord. But Lock decided that Dax would make a better lord. Lock decided to continue his war against the aboleth.
The character build is curtsey of Tulak the barbarian of YouTube fame. I choose to do the Sherlock Holmes build with a slight change in choosing the haunted background instead of the sage background. The Build is 19 levels of rogue inquisitive and 1 level in monk. Taking the advice from Bramble Foot Druid. I would be planning instead be taking 3 levels of monk shadow and 17 levels of rogue inquisitive.
It took a while but in celebration to the release of the new dune trailer, I wrote a character based on the main point of view character. Not Paul the other one. Duncan Idaho, yes the minor character that is barely in the book. Just read the rest of the books after dune and you will see. Carfrita remembered when he had to eat and drink, but that was a century or so ago. He sat with the band strumming his guitar with his metal fingers, he barely remembered his originals. He has been serving the family far longer than he had his metal body. The arch duchess sitting at the head of the table once sat on his knee listening to stories of dragons and adventurers, of deserts of sand and gold and of her father. Carfrita once join the old duke's army when he was still of flesh. On one campaign the duke was in the middle of the camp arguing with his brothers on strategy until. "You Solder! do we march to our allies aid of do we stay here and raid."
"Me sir?"
"Yes dammit. Speak up"
"Why don't we go after their capital"
"We will never be able to tak--"
"We don't have take them just draw their army from the field."
They marched to the capital launched some stones at their walls. They then ran like hell when the counts army appeared. It was months of running battles and ambushes for them for the rest of the year. His advice lead to a successful campaign. At the end of the campaign he was standing in line for his share of the war loot. As a corporal he was do enough loot to see him through until the next war. Until a page ran up to him with a summons from the duke. The duke wanted him to stay on with his house hold guard in recognition to the value to his advice. The prospect of steady pay and better training was to tempting to turn down.
He was with the family for a few decades. He became the dukes son's sword master and tutor. This was until their adventures in the desert of sand and gold other wise known as the gold sea. He was sent ahead to prepare for the duke's families' migration to the desert to take poussin of the region. they were meeting with the tribes he made contact with when the emperors' guard attack and captured the old duke. Carfita lead the duke's wife, son and unborn daughter into the desert. They were chased to the tribe's camp. holding them off long enough for the family to escape he set to sell his life dearly. It was a monster of a man who cut his head off that ended his first life. Next he knew he was waking up for the last time on a wood table with a metal body. He died decades ago. The duke's son raised the tribes up in rebellion and was now emperor. And he was to be a gift to the young emperor from a cabal of artificers and necromancers who served the last emperor. And now knowing that his path has become a long one indeed. he set out the only way he know how, boldly with as much charm as possible.
The build is 17 levels of swashbuckler rogue and 3 levels of kensai monk. The thinking is that these would allow for stacking multiple ac bonuses.

Barely over a week. I don't really play the game. I just enjoy writing characters.
