This is my first ever character and was just looking for some notes on my backstory to make sure it is helpful for my DM to weave my character into the world. Disclaimer I did use source material from 4e by mistake when writing this, but my DM said that shouldn't be an issue. I am working with a prompt from my DM stating that our group will be escorting a supply wagon to an in as our meeting and was asked to say if I knew other party members or not.
I will be playing a dragonborn paladin oath of the crown.
I was born to the Stormhorn Clan of Q’bara. I was a small and fragile hatchling. My father grew concerned as our leader, Mishva Garodya, campaigned for war with the humans. He decided to spare me and in the dark of the night, he snuck me away and left me at the temple of the Sovereign Host. Shortly after coming to the temple, I began to grow stronger. I did much of the physical labor for the priests to thank them for their kindness. As my body grew stronger so did my longing to see my family, but I knew I could not return to the clan without exposing my father’s dishonorable conduct.
When my head would wander, so would I. I found peace in running long distances. When I run, the rest of the world melts away and my mind is peaceful. It was on one of these runs that I first met the goddess Boldrei. In a moment of clarity, she spoke to me and commended me for holding the interests of my father above my own selfish desires.
After learning more about Boldrei from the priests, it didn’t take long for me to decide that, when I came of age, I wanted to become an adventurer and spread the messages of community, home, and family in her honor.
I have now set out to travel the lands looking to help spread and strengthen civilization and communities however I can. Hoping that one day I may find a place to call home, where I can feel the bond of kinship that I so instinctively crave. I have applied to a few jobs, but my lack of experience makes me less attractive to contractors. I was able to convince a shipment company to give me a shot, and I am set to leave on a mission protecting a supply wagon headed to an inn in a few days’ time. I may not be driving back monsters to facilitate the expansion of a city, but an inn is a slice of civilization in an otherwise unruly and lonely land. Therefore, it is within my calling to ensure they are able to provide travelers with the comfort and safety they require.
I will be meeting with five other adventurers. I expect one or two of them are more seasoned and the rest are trying to prove their worth like me otherwise this seems like a lot to guard a simple supply wagon. Or maybe they have not given me the full details on the cargo we are to protect, or the area we are traveling through. If I can join forces with one or two of them, after this mission, we should be able to get jobs easier moving forward.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
