Edit: I'm not asking for help with making a bard character sheet. That's already done. I'm moreso asking for help in terms of fleshing out a backstory.
So I've been working on Malrius for a while. I have a general idea/direction I want to take him in in terms of backstory and personality, as well as his own main/side quests to include for a way to learn a bit about him.
I had the idea of his family being cursed by a ghost/demon/something sinister, and all his living relatives died as a result of the curse. Now that he's the last remaining one of the family tree, the curse has affected him greatly, no longer looking like he did before. His skin decaying, face smoking with no visible features aside from his glowing eyes, fingers turning dark and decaying, a seemingly simple herbal tea is enough to stall the curse from eating him alive. He dresses like he does to keep his suffering a secret from others while attempting to live his life to the best of his extent, unsure if he would ever be able to free himself.
An old family heirloom, a pocket watch, seems to be more useful than it seems at first glance. It looks broken at first glance, the hands refusing to budge despite any attempts at repairing it or changing the batteries. It moves on its own though whenever some bad seems to happen whether it be a small or big event. This vague insight into (sometimes harmless) events keeps him somewhat prepared for the day ahead of him. Also, it smokes whenever the curse isn't being suppressed by the herbal concoction, making him suffer unless he drinks it again. Becoming more exhausted the longer he is unable to or forgets to drink, it would surely kill him within a week or two. Malrius has thus become rather dependant on the tea, keeping a flask filled with the stuff on his person at all times.
Some tips and advice on creating a more fleshed out backstory would be nice. I'll link his profile as well in case anyone wishes to view it out of curiosity.
I'm not necessarily asking to build a bard sheet. I'm moreso asking for help with fleshing out a background/backstory. If it still fits better over there, I'll move the post over.
Certainly an interesting take on a bard that I don't think I've seen before. Sounds less like a stereotypical performer and more like a magical researcher (I'm guessing you plan to take either Lore or Whispers for your college; Haunted One background...?).
What led Malrius to choose bard for his class, rather than something like wizard or cleric, if I might ask?

Thanks! Yes, I have Malrius with a Haunted One background, and I've been thinking about Whispers though I haven't fully decided yet.
As far as why he chose bard for his class instead of something else, the idea I had was that music was something that brought him a sense of peace/reprieve from the suffering the curse inflicted on him. Along with the tea, the ability to play music to touch souls and harm those that would harm gave him a sense of control over his life.

I recommend going to the Bard Class section to discuss building a Bard.
