Ever get the feeling your character is not long for this mortal world? haha Well I'm making a new one just incase! The backstory for Damrus is below.Damrus is a fun light hearted gnome Druid who has a great love for cartography. The backstory is just first draft and we really go into great detail on them in game, just enough to make them relevant. How does this first draft come across?
Thanks in advance!
Back Story...
Damrus is a famed Cartographer within Gnome society. He is well known as a great up and coming tradesman who spends great lengths of time outside the relative safety of the cities. When out of the cities you can be sure to find Damrus in the deep wilderness constructing great maps of uncharted lands for the benefit of all Gnome-kind. A traveler approached Damrus a short time ago, the traveler, a dwarf who said his name was Baltor, requested Damrus to set out on a quest under a mountain in the name of a great dwarf king.
Damrus excited for this opportunity jumped at the chance and set out almost immediately, once he had finished questioning the dwarf from pure excitement. After months of exploration, Damrus had created the most perfect and realistic multi-layered map of the mountains, both above and below, that had ever been produced. However, during his exploration, Damrus had became suspicious of Baltor's intentions. Wherever Damrus travelled all he saw were happy and prosperous folk. They had food, wealth and family. What more could anyone ever want? and why had none of these inhabitants never heard of Baltor?
They had agreed to meet back at the Royal Guild of Cartographers guild headquarters to exchange the map for the coin, as well as to trade stories of the past few months. Damrus, suspicious of this meet, now appeared with a fake map, a map almost perfect bar one small detail, the scrolls had been magically imbued with a spell often used by the Gnomes in times of worry. If the word 'TREACHERY!' was yelled by a member of the guild, the map would immediately burst into magical flames.. Baltor had arrived with an armed escort of beings that Damrus had never seen before. They both seemed to be elves, but there eyes were sunken, they skin was more of a dark soulless grey, rather than the beautiful silken glow that he had seen previously. He produced the map and follow-up to question Baltor on his intentions. Baltor claimed he was only interested in acquiring a great collection of maps for his leader who would do with them as he pleased. Damrus, underwhelmed and unconvinced by this blatant lie, accused Baltor of tricking him into carrying out reconnaissance for whatever evil he had planned! Baltor began to laugh and the two beings he had arrived with looked at each other and spoke in unison, "The Gnome isn't as dumb as he looks". Damrus, shocked, horrified... humiliated, by this betrayal had only one option left, he drew a great breath into his short frame, and with the great raw of a storm giant, he bellowed "TREACHERY!", then he ran for his life. Baltor and his party, shocked and panicked by the maps, now inflames, grew great in their rage and began destroying the headquarters of the guild in search for the only Gnome who could recreate the maps they longed for, any poor and unfortunate Gnome they encountered in the halls in their rage, was slaughtered without mercy or hesitation.
Within minutes the entire building had erupted in flames. With the attention this drew from guards, townsfolk and the local tavern, renown for homing great heroes passing through, the dwarf and his guards decided to make an escape with great haste. From that day onwards, no one is sure what happened in that building. All that is known is that Damrus felt suspicious, he had powerful wizards from the guild imbue the maps with trap magic incase his suspicions were true, and that the building erupted in flames and no bodies were recovered. Damrus, has been presumed dead now for over 6 months.
He feels in his heart he cannot, and will not, return home until he can walk through the gates with that evil, souls, liar of a dwarf in restraints, ready to answer for the crimes that he committed that ill-fated night.
