Something to consider is that deities often favor those who exemplify traits that they embody.
So... What kind of person is the Cleric? Start there.
That doesn't mean the Cleric can't somewhat be at odds with the deity or the deity's virtues, though, but some deities despise certain acts.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Ilmater, for sure! He's basically the FR's take on Jesus, but without the crusades and inquisition and all the other church stuff. He's known as the Rack-Broken Lord because he underwent torture for the people of the Realms. He's also the god of endurance and martyrdom, and focuses on helping the suffering and oppressed.
Lathander would be a close second. Known as the Morninglord, he's a deity of light, creativity, and vitality, and particularly hates the undead. Either god would be a great choice.
I want to play a cleric, mind you i would love to serve a god that would genuinely care about me and accept me. What god would you recommend? And why?

For what you describe, my go-to is Selune.
