So, I think for a campaign coming up I'm going to play a Warforged Artificer, and just need help with the back story...
Is it possible that my character could be a halfling scientist who had some uncurbable disease and thus put their body in some sort of stasis and managed to move their consciousness to a Warforged they created? I'm just not sure if it's possible lore wise.
Or should I just go for more of a Megaman theme where I was created by a scientist and was never any form of creature previously. I may have a little fun with this character and ...maybe they were created for evil, but prior soon after the ritual was completed my creator was killed and I am on this journey to avenge them when I found out their ideals are inconsistent with my own.
So neither of those examples fit into what a Warforged is in the game setting in which they "officially" reside, though the latter is closer. The former option you're more describing something closer to a Reborn.
So if you're playing Eberron, you probably want to re-read the race description again, because it's all right there as far as how the backstory works, probably one of the more really well developed races from its initial write up in 5e. If you're not playing in Eberron, it's up to you and your DM to determine what Warforged are. How do enigmatically constructed sentient, likely soul bearing, beings fit into the game world. Are they rare entities that walk out of the occasional boundary pushing scientists or arcanists lab? Are they a legacy of the world's violent past (a la Eberron) trying to find a place in the world?
Again, the official lore to Warforged are tied to Eberron, so would only really apply to your character if you were playing in an Eberron campaign. I don't believe any of the other official D&D settings currently supported, or any of the legacy settings in the past really has a place/lore for them. Apparently there's one known in the Forgotten Realms, but that one comes from Eberron. So if Eberron, read up or talk with your DM on the place of Warforged in Eberron, if you're playing in a different world, check in with DM to see how (or If) a Warforged fits into the game world.

Depends on your definition of "official" of course, but per Matt Mercer last week, Exandria will have some warforged running around after the events of the Mighty Nein campaign

Active characters:
Askatu, hyperfocused vedalken freedom fighter in Wildspace (Zealot barb/Swashbuckler rogue/Battle Master fighter) Green Hill Sunrise, jaded tabaxi mercenary trapped in the Dark Domains (Battle Master fighter) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
A player in our campaign wanted to be a warforged artificer, he started out as only a head, torso, and one arm captive on a pirated trade ship. (all the PC started off as prisoners on this sea adventure) He started out very C3po meets the iron giant in personality and some of the 1st quests we had after escaping was finding someone to heal/repair him. The player ended up flaking out a few games in but the DM kept the character in the campaign as an NPC that continued to help and provide support to the party in between quests, Bringing in more of the original lore from Eberron to him.
