all sorts of odd things (usually terrible) happen when dwarves dig too deep. Maybe a clan dug down close to some kind of planar gate that irradiated a few dwarves.
there's not much in 5e for the process other than the Ravnica sourcebook saying there are Planeswalkers. i think the way it used to work in prior editions was that you have to find a portal and then know to use it. maybe they can just feel the portals and instinctively know how to activate them by meditating or something - no real spellcaster needed.
there's a 2e Planeswalkers Handbook. If you can get your hands on that, it may be really helpful. 5e rules change but the lore all remains pretty much the same edition-edition.
so maybe your clan of dwarves dug down and unknownlingly set up camp next to a gate...one in the party was a pregnant female and the fetus absorbs some crazy stuff...few months later - BAM, a planeswalker is born.
Class abilities in a non spellcasting class might be innate magical abilities. For example, in MTG Kaya is a blood hunter with the ghost slayer subclass.
But I played a mountain dwarf wizard with combat and earth related spells once. He was the party's best fighter with spells like Tenser's Transformation and green flame blade. There would be examples if magic had more Dwarves.
Powerful stress and being born with a Spark. And I think planeswalkers don’t have to be spellcasters, but most get some magical ability from their Spark.

All hail the great and mighty platypus.
Resisting is simply standing in front of the tide and pushing at it. Even if you endure at first, you will eventually break down. Adapting, by contrast, is turning into a fish.

You forgot the part where a Mommy and Daddy Dwarf love each other very much.
I guess it can be any extreme emotion, then. Nissa and Liliana planeswalked from fear, Gideon planeswalked from grief, Chandra planeswalked from anger, and Jace planeswalked from psychic trauma.
I’m thinking, if a planeswalker can be from any plane...
Character Idea: A human planeswalker who was a politician on Earth, from the future. Planeswalker spark ignited from the overbearing responsibilities and being trampled by the media that results from being a politician. Bard college of eloquence.

A planeswalker can't be from Ebberon though. The ring of Siberys is like the immortal sun.
Unless the ring is flawed, of course...

It might be possible to escape the ring through the expenditure of massive amounts of magical energy since magic on Eberron comes from the ring. Maybe binding an elemental prince into an airship could turn it into a Weatherlight capable of passing through the ring.

Hey friends, my group wants to run a one shot to theros, and frankly i felt humored enough to try a dwarf planes walker.
But i have 2 questions im struggling to answer:
A. How would a dwarf become a planes walker?
B. Does he have to be a magic caster originally? Like, can he be a fighter? Or must he be able to cast up to a spesific level spells?
Would love to hear your thoughts!

edit: actually, look at the last 2 pages of this...it's official 5e content (although not fully playtested): https://media.wizards.com/2017/downloads/magic/plane-shift_amonkhet.pdf
