I'm running a campaign set in Wildemount, and the whole lore surrounding the Elves is giving me a migraine. So the Explorers Guide to Wildemount says that the Elves' return to Wildemount is "only a generation or two removed from the present day", and if I'm understanding a "generation" correctly, that means they emerged from the Feywild only 30-60 years from the current time?
If this is true, how do they already have such a hold over politics and status in the upper-class?
Examples: Ludinus - how is he in such a high position in the Cerberus Assembly if he just popped out of they Feywild 30 years ago? Yussa - he bought the Open Quay land in 635PD, (two-hundred years ago)
The sourcebook also says: "It is said that the ashes of the Calamity still blew upon the breeze when, centuries later, the barriers of ice melted and the elves of Wildemount emerged from the Feywild once more." If the ashes of the Calmity were still fresh, this would mean that they emerged earlier than a few generations. This makes sense, as Gwardan was created around the 5th century PD. Also supported by the tragedy of the elven city of Molaesmyr, which happened between 535 and 585 PD.
So, is it either: not ALL Elves fled to the Feywild? OR, "a few generations" is not an accurate measurement of time? Am I overthinking this? YES OK I AM, but it's Friday night and I'm feelin saucy~

Oh my god, I just realized it means an Elvish generation, which is 100-300 years
