I ended up going Pax South 2017 specifically for Acqisitions Incorporated. AI is what really drew me into D&D so i like to include references to them in the games I play. They had a signing the day before the big AI game.
First up was the C Team. Ryan Hartman was funny to talk to. Probably my favorite C Team character.
Kris Straub did the C Team logo. Kris closes his eyes for a few seconds and then gets started on drawing it up. He looks at it after it’s done and he tells me that he messed up. He then blacks out the mistake at the bottom of the logo. Kris was so chill about everything. I think it may have been the first time he did a C Team logo.
Kate Welch and Amy Falcone were up next to sign. Both were so nice. Then they asked me who did the logo. Kris then chimes in he did.
Then it was AI. I ask Patrick Rothfuss for his real signature and something for his character, Viari. Rothfuss signs and puts Viari in quotes at first. Then explains to me the why Viari shouldn’t be in quotes based on proper punctuation. He corrects himself then with parentheses.
I wanted AI on one side and the C Team on the other. I tell this to Mike Krahulik, who plays Jim Darkmagic. Typical Jim fashion he signed on the wrong side and looks up at me and laughs. Then give me his real signature on the AI side along with the AI logo.
Chris Perkins was last to sign. He’s amazing of course, I mean look at that signature! Every D&D book that people were having signed came to him open. He would close the cover so he could see which book he was signing. Mine was the DMG. He seemed to have a smirk each time someone brought him the DMG to sign. A hand shake ended our conversation after I told him I was very excited for the AI game.
Everyone of them were so cool and they didn’t have to be. In my opinion, the mistakes are what really gives it charm. This DMG Is my most prized D&D possession along with my first set of dice. Just thought I’d share what really brought me into this magical world of D&D and how awesome the community has been.
