Here's another character concept I plan on (hopefully) playing someday. This character would be a lightning themed Paladin-Sorcerer Kobold, and I would like to build them with the express intent of fighting Tiamat in a long-term campaign or a one-shot. But I'm conflicted on a number of things:
1. What subclass(es) do I take? Storm Sorcery is a good option for lightning-theming, but Draconic Bloodline Blue could also work. I have no clue which Paladin Oath, if any, I'd take.
2. Do I go for STR or DEX? I know that paladins are a STR class, and that going the DEX route would make this character quite MAD, but going DEX would help with DEX saves and stealth. It's another reason to go for the Draconic Bloodline, since it would bump my armor class to 13 + DEX. A good part of me wants this character to be light and agile, a bolt of lightning in the sky.
3. What about level balancing? Do I grab Divine Smite at 2nd and pour the rest into sorcerer? Or do I push for Aura by sacrificing my 18th level sorcerer feature?
Ultimately, I would like this character to be a nova-striker. I'd like to fuel Divine Smite with my sorcerer spell slots and zip through the air like a bolt of lightning.
I have two draft build concepts: STR 18/2 Storm Sorcerer/Paladin, or DEX 14/6 Dragon Sorcerer/Paladin (Oath unknown), both are Sword-and-Board.
See 3.2 below for Paladin subclassing. For Sorcerer, Draconic > Storm, but your best bet is probably Divine Soul (make sure you pick a lightning deity, like Zeus, Thor, or what have you). It's mechanically a very superior choice, and flavor is, as always, completely up to your own discretion anyway. You also get the permanent flight you want.
You have to have Strength to multiclass with Paladin, so going DEX is so hard you should ignore it. If you don't want Strength, and lord knows there are good reasons not to, you can use a level of Hexblade to go Charisma. Which is best depends on the spells you want, but if you want to cast offensive spells like chain lightning, Charisma is a must.
Extra Attack is basically worthless to any Sorcadin. What's absolutely priceless is the L6 aura. The two level points you should consider stopping at depend on what you want:
Level 2: You get Divine Smite, probably the reason you went Sorcadin. No need for a subclass. You fight primarily with Booming Blade and Green-flame Blade. If you reach level 20, you have at least 17 Sorc levels, so you have access to L9 spells. There's even a level to spare for Hexblade.
Level 6: You have the unfathomably good aura. Your Paladin subclass gives you a Channel Divinity you'll almost never use, especially since your first use of the day will almost always be Harness Divine Power. You should pick your subclass based on the oath spells, not the CD. Your highest level Sorc spells are L7, with or without a Hexblade level.

EDIT: Changed Extra Attack to Aura
