If you choose the order of the scribes subclass for wizard, then your able to change the damage of a spell. The damage must be from a spell you have of the same level spell as the one your casting.
If you pick up the spell Erupting Earth, and then fireball, you can change fireballs damage type to bludgeoning.
Cast Lightning Ball + Channel Divinity for 48 damage over a 40 foot diameter. You can also upcast it for 54 damage.
If you upcast it then you have to have to have a spell of the level you upcast it to that deals lightning damage.
You can do the same with OoS wizard 17/Tempest cleric 2 with meteor swarm and prismatic wall (or a different one with lightning, if another exists) for 240 lightning damage (or 120 to people who succeed on the save or are resistance but fail, or 60 for people with resistance who succeed, or 0 to blue dragons, will ‘o’ wisps, Storm sorcerers….)

That's right, forgot about that. I personally wouldn't upcast it anyway. It would much rather save those slots for a 4th level spell (when you get them), or something that scales better.

Bludgeoning Fireball, anyone?
I'd flavor it as hurling a small stone, and having that stone expand and churn and curl into a wave of earth and rock.
