I’m working on a character who’s clearly meant to be similar to Boba Fett (utilizing a multi-class in Sorcerer to mimic some of his weaponry). I’ve read in a few places that the 5E equivalent of Mandalorian armor would be half-plate.
Thing is, he’s primarily a Ranger (Hunter archetype). Would half-plate still be appropriate?
Ranger has Proficiency in medium armor, which Half Plate is, so I don't see any mechanical issue with this. As long as your first level is in Ranger then you get their armor and weapon proficiencies.
Edit: Scratch that, I just double checked and multi-classing into Ranger also gives you medium armor proficiency.

Have to say that I disagree with that proposition as Mandalorian armour is usually considered to be the strongest, most resistant and best covering armour available. Yea armour design differ somewhat between SW and D&D and that might make it look somewhat more like a half-plate (or even less) but Beskar armour is meant to be the best armour available so if you want to translate it into a fantasy setting the only analogue that makes sense IMO is full-plate.
yeah, there's not really a DND equivalent to Beskar, since...
there are no* bullets or laser blasts in DnD, and no mechanics in 5e other than resistance or immunity. If you just want strong armor, plate or half plate
Half plate Mizzium or Adamantine would be the closest "material" emulating Beskar without adding a magical effect. Beskar seems resistant to energy, but that could be emulated with a limited use Absorb Elements or something that reduces energy damage...maybe.

IMHO, Earthdawn is still the best fantasy realm, Shadowrun is the best Sci-Fi realm, and Dark Sun is the best D&D realm.

I'd say Adamantin would be a close contender, i mean it nullify Crits vs yourself, wich is the kinda property Beskar could be knowed for.

I agree with the first two, but not the underlined. Do you have a source to support that? Sounds an awful lot like your opinion of an opinion. A 5 year old can look at storm trooper armor (just as one example) vs mandalorian and say which one covers more of the body. With mandalorian armor, a huge portion of the body is covered with leather. If you compare full plate to mandalorian, you'll see that the coverage isn't really comparable either. I agree with half plate.
My opinion is that mithral half-plate, as the idea of beskar is that it's incredibly light and still maneuverable, but is still strong enough to block a powerful attack such as that of a lightsaber.

Half plate is medium armor, which Rangers have proficiency in.

I think you also may want to look at the Artificer's armor, maybe a sorcerer or hexblade armorer MC.

I would add the benefits of Mithral Armor also as it doesn"t seem to require high strength or reduce a Mando sneaking around.
