You choose INT, WIS, or CHA for your spell casting ability, opening the door for any casting class. You can cast the leveled spells once for free, then use spell slots thereafter.
So what class/subclass do you think would pair nicely with the Air Genasi? Something that would be both powerful and thematic. Tempest Cleric comes to mind for me. What are some other ideas?
An Air Genasi (MMotM) Warlock: Genie (Djinni) is extremely thematic... so the character's warlock abilities are flavored as the genie parent teaching his kid how to use its natural abilities.
I have made an Eldritch Knight using a Longbow. Some of the spells Ive picked up suprisingly fits the theme of air, thunder and lightning
Cantrips: Gust, Booming Blade, and Message (sending the message through the winds)
1st level spells: Absorb Elements (because you are an elemental), Shield (making a wind barrier), Thunderwave, and Find Familiar (summoning an elemental instead of a fey).
2nd level: Gust of Wind, Shatter, Warding Wind, and Invisibility (dissappearing in the winds)
3rd Level: Lightning Bolt, Thunder Step or Haste.
4th Level: Storm Sphere, Greater Invis.
Also picked up the Telekinetic feat, but reflavoured it as using winds insteaf telekinesis.
Artificer Armorer, Forge Cleric, Rune Knight Fighter. I don't know, anything you think is cool to play? There are no restrictions on classes when it comes to races.
I just made a air genasi samurai with great weapon fighting style, great weapon master feat; and fighters feat unarmed combat. I chose the Astral Traveler background which comes with the Magic Initiate feat (cleric). Chose Cantrip thaumaturgy and spare the dying and 1st level spell Protection from Evil. Gave him great sword of warning, ring of jumping, boots of speed, and Mizzium chain mail armor. He shows restraint so fight unarmed at first. Saves the big sword for more dangerous threats.

In Monsters of the Muliverse the Air Genasi got:
o 35 feet walking spead
o Darkvision
o You can hold your breath for infinity
o Resistance to lightning damage
o Shocking Grasp
o Feather Fall (when you reach 3rd level)
o Levitate (when you reach 5th level)

Wizard of some sort. Bladesinger or Conjurer, maybe.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

The Storm Sorcery Sorcerer and the Path of the Storm Herald Barbarian both work thematically too.
