so thinking about starting a warforged rogue character maybe going Inquisitive archtype (looks kinda like a private investigator) but unsure yet but in all honesty rather stumped on a kind of backstory to have for them, any DnD vets able to come up with basic idea for a warforged rogue? (prefereably not the sterotypical edgy loner type)
Could try out something similar to the fallout 4 companion Nick Valentine. Not exactly edgy, well known and respected but also not universally accepted either.
World setting could help quite a bit to iron out details and recommendations.
I do enjoy the rogue inquisitive more than most people seem to. Hope you have fun with it.
hmm, never really thought about a parralel with Nick, tho Nick is a good aligned character. Was thinking of the rogue being a lawful neutral by the mindset of following the law by the letter, even in the drow city in the Underdark so the drow arent the nicest but they set their own laws and so my warforged basically enforcing those laws the same way he would the normal laws
So we have a Warforged character in our current party. He's a Fighter, but as far as backstory goes, it could be applied to pretty much any class.
His backstory is that he was actually born a human from a noble family. During his youth (around 12-14 years old) a coup overthrew his noble family and as a result, he was mortally injured. Long story-short...an elderly mage found the dying boy, and used his magic and knowledge to transfer the soul of the boy into the body of a remade/repaired slain warforged. Add in a little amnesia/memory loss and it's role-playing gold.
As additional flavor, we modded the backstory to have occurred over 100 years prior to the existing campaign which the character is unaware of. As far as he's concerned, it happened yesterday and he's still a young boy now inhabiting the body of a killing machine and searching for answers to what happened to his family and legacy.

Nice, was thinking about making a Warforged fighter myself so I'll take that into consideration. Managed to create a custom background for my rogue using the Urban Bounty Hunter description too. Surprisingly lengthy bs for someone who never made one before :-)
Mine served as a marine on a spelljammer. The ship crashed after fighting Gith pirates and I'm stuck here trying to get back using stone knives and bearskins.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
The warforged could be a rogue by trade, specifically an expert on unlocking things because it ends up being the case that he is a walking animate safe himself. Part of a thieves guild that while he was deactivated got hit, killed and they end up waking up with his contents being empty. He now has to find who are the people that did in his gang, but also figure out the treasure that was missing from him.

If it's from Eberron, how about a backstory as having been in a recon or counterintelligence team during the Great War?

‘Rogue’ does mean, y’know, Rogue, so you could have malfunctioned and pursued a different goal than your evil creator.
…and then I swing him into a hedge.
