The Ring of Spell Storing allows you to save unused spell slots by casting commonly used spells into the ring then use the ring to cast the spell without using a spell slot later.
It does not let you ignore a spells casting time on the later attempt, though you may be able to cast a spell as a ritual then later cast it as if you'd used a spell slot.
That's boring.
What's particularly useful is that you need only be attuned to it to cast spells from it. But casting spells into it bears no such requirement. In other words: Your Wizard can cast a spell from your Cleric's list, if the Cleric puts the spell on the ring.
Now, this is great for letting your Rogue Misty Step out of danger or Counterspell the Counterspell that might otherwise counter your Wizard's Counterspell... It happens, don't judge. But the thing I wanted to ask about is special. Your Wizard uses the ring to cast Find Steed or even Find Greater Steed from your Paladin's list. Your Paladin uses it to Find Familiar from the Wizard's list.
These spells in particular have Instantaneous duration. But the effect is essentially Permanent. Are there any other spells with permanent effects that can be cast from a Ring of Spell Storing?

Hmm, the usefulness of Raise Dead would be limited. The effect would have to stay on the ring indefinitely, until it was needed. When the Cleric is killed, a surviving party member could attune to the ring within 10 days to resurrect him.
Unlike using it to give the rogue Misty Step this application would not require the initial caster to expend spell slots to keep the ring charged regularly. It would only be needed on the occasion when the cleric died. This would also free the atunement slot. However, it's not a great choice if you have the atunement slot available. That Cleric may have not died if he'd had Shield on the ring to protect him.
Some spells have similar effects to Find Familiar where you instantly create something permanent, like Awaken, Animate Dead and Fabricate. However, in each of these cases it matters little who cast the spell. Your Cleric can control a number of thralls relative to the number of spell slots he is willing to devote to controlling them. So using a spell slot to give someone else control of the undead for a day does little more than to double the casting time of the spell. The party members can each Fabricate their own tool, or the Wizard could Fabricate a tool for each of them.
Not permanent, but hex / hunters marks for a barbarian or fighter will allow extra damage per attack and they both have con save proficiency so wont be as at risk of losing it. Healing spirit for after fight full healing. And animate objects - because when have 10 flying daggers helping you not been cool?
Permanent - magic mouth - it speaks in the 'casters voice' so this is a nice way to have a few different speakers. Wall of stone, permanent*, but why? Fabricate - complex objects require proficiency to build - oh look the ring wearer has some crafting skills the original caster didnt!

That's a brilliant way to use it! Thanks for bringing it up!

I really like that. An entire party riding pegasi while their army of trees marches to Isengard is awesome. The only thing I have to add is Raise Dead
